This is Market YOU First. Market YOU First. It's time to learn to sell what you bring to the table, not what you're selling. This is Market YOU First. This is your host, Wes Wyatt. Hey everybody, this is Wes Wyatt and this is the Market YOU First podcast. Have you ever noticed that the most successful people in your industry always seem to reference the same books? It's not coincidence, success leaves clues. And according to a recent study, top performers read an average of 50 books per year, while the average American reads just 4. And today, I'm going to show you strategic reading habits that can become your secret weapon for personal branding. Now, you might ask, why does this matter? Well, your personal brand isn't just about what you post online, it's about the depth of thinking behind those posts. So, reading strategically is going to give you insights that nobody else in your space has. And when everyone's recycling the same ideas, you'll stand out with fresh perspectives. And for side hustlers, intentional reading is even more critical. You don't have 40 hours a week to develop your expertise like full-timers do. So, the right books accelerate your learning curve and help you learn to speak with authority, even when you're new to your field. And here's the truth that most people miss. It's not about how many books you read, it's about which books you choose and how you apply them to your unique personal brand. So, here are three key takeaways that should help you with this. Number one, build your personal brand reading pyramid. The foundation should be three to five cornerstone books in your specific niche that you read daily and deeply and repeatedly. The middle are going to be 10 to 15 complimentary books from adjacent fields that provide unique insights. And then the top ones should be one to two books completely outside of your field to spark creativity connections that nobody else makes. And then number two is create your reading ritual. Dedicate 20 minutes each morning before checking emails or social media. Take physical notes, not digital. Research shows that handwriting improves retention by 38%. And then immediately share one insight to social media to solidify your learning and build your brand simultaneously. And then number three is practice the 3R method. Read strategically, focusing on books that address your specific knowledge gaps. Reflect through writing. Spend five minutes summarizing the key points after each reading session. And then lastly, relate to your audience and translate concepts into language that resonates with your specific followers. And then how do you make it personal and market you first? Your reading list should be as unique as your personal brand. While others blindly follow bestseller lists, you're going to create a reading strategy that amplifies what makes you different. If you're a life coach focusing on mindfulness, don't read every popular mindfulness book. Instead, read one fundamental mindfulness text, then add psychological books on habit formation, neuroscience research on attention, and perhaps a book on Japanese aesthetics for a unique perspective. This combination is going to become part of your personal brand story. You could say, I blend Eastern philosophy with cutting-edge neuroscience to help busy professionals find calm. No one else is going to have your exact reading DNA. And here is your call to action to really kind of tie all this together. Take 15 minutes today to write down the most important questions that your audience asked you. Then, instead of defaulting to the current bestseller list, find one book that specifically addresses each question. Start with just three books and read them deeply rather than skimming a dozen popular titles. If you found any of the information today helpful, don't forget to like, share, comment, and subscribe.
