A couple of months ago - some issues I was experiencing caused me to do a 180 with my diet and exercise routine.  A better way to explain it would be - I realized if I didn't start on my way to being healthy, I might not be around.

We've all heard the saying, "Garbage In, Garbage Out," for our diets.  But we may not have heard the saying: "If You're Not Moving, You're Dying," for our bodies.  

When you're lethargic and sedimentary - your body loses.  This is just a small list of the things that can occur when you choose to stop moving:

  • Inflammation.
  • Increased chances of high cholesterol and/or blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers, poor blood circulation, strokes, and heart attacks. 
  • Lower metabolism.
  • You'll experience fewer calories burnt.  Couple this with a poor diet, and weight gain - even obesity - is likely to follow.
  • Loss of endurance and strength.
  • Weak Bones.
  • Compromised immune system.
  • And much more!

Try to implement a few or all of these simple steps:

  • Try to stand and stretch at least once every hour.
  • Work exercise into your daily routine.
  • Limit the amount of sitting you do.
  • Don't take the easy way out.  Take stairs as opposed to elevators.  Park further away as opposed to looking for the closest spot.  
  • Pay attention to what you're putting into your body.  Eat for fuel - not fun.

The idea of retiring sounds fun to someone who dislikes their job.  But, when you think about how many people take a turn for the worst after retiring - it doesn't seem as appealing.  Instead - find something you love to do and keep moving!
